Trail to First Class – May 3rd 2025 in Maple Valley

The Hyas Eena Chapter of the Order of the Arrow is sponsoring the 5th Annual Trail to First Class Event. This Event will be for any Scout that has not yet achieved the rank of 1st Class, but our focus will be on 1st and 2nd year Scouts. Any Scout that would like to refresh their skills is also invited to attend.
When: May 3, 2025, 10am to 3pm
Where: Lake Wilderness Park, Maple Valley
Why: The Hyas Eena Chapter is here to serve our Territory. We would like to provide a safe, outdoor location to help with Advancement and have fun doing it.
Cost: Free!
This Event will cover the following subjects:
- Orienteering Course
- Knots
- Water Safety (NO SWIM TEST/Not in water)
- Citizenship
- Plant Identification
- Cooking
- 1st Aid
- Physical Fitness
- Knife Safety (New)
Each subject will cover requirements from Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class that cover that subject. (The exception is we will not have a waterfront. Therefore, no swim tests will be run and there will be nothing in the water.)
Each Scout that attends any part of the Event will receive booklet that indicates exactly what requirements have been completed (Rank/Number/Letter) and signed by an Arrowmen that observed them. Our Arrowmen will only sign the booklets.
We would like your Scouts to attend as a Patrol, or at least attend with a Buddy. However, Scouts that attend as an individual will be paired up. If you Scouts attend as a Patrol, a Troop Guide might be a good idea.
Parents are encouraged to attend, but please remind them that the Arrowmen from our Chapter are also Senior Scouts. Many of them are Camp Counselors as well. We recommend that parents bring a camp chair to be more comfortable. We will have an area set up to view most, if not all, activities.
Suggested Uniform for Participants:
Activity Uniform and running shoes (for the Physical Fitness requirements).
We encourage them to show off their Troop T-Shirts or Summer Camp shirts.
Equipment for Participants:
10 essentials, with focus on a compass for Orienteering, rain gear and a water bottle
